Feb. 27, 1977: Keith is arrested at Toronto’s Harbour Castle Hotel, after 15 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police found an ounce of heroin following a raid of his hotel room. Keith was charged with possession with intent to traffic, facing seven years to life in prison. Bail was set at $25,000 (£14,705) Later on, he received a one-year suspended sentence and was placed on a year’s probation after pleading guilty to a reduced charge of possession of the drug. Charges of possession of cocaine and possession of heroin with intent to traffic, which could have resulted in a life sentence for Richards, were dropped.
