Star Star: The Stones’ Most Outrageous Closer

Closing Goats Head Soup with a bang, the Rolling Stones didn’t just flirt with controversy—they kicked the door wide open. Star Star is no tender love song but a raucous ode to excess, fame, and groupie culture. With Mick Jagger’s cheeky lyrics and Keith Richards’ fiery riffs, the song paints a scandalous portrait of lust and celebrity gone wild. What begins as a seductive story quickly spirals into satire, where romance takes a backseat to rebellion. The BBC banned it outright, but the Stones reveled in the chaos, turning censorship into fuel for their legend.

The Controversy Behind Star Star

Originally titled Starfucker, the song’s explicit lyrics sent shockwaves through Atlantic Records. President Ahmet Ertegun demanded a title change, and lines like “giving head to Steve McQueen” were censored or buried in the mix. Despite industry panic, Jagger defended his lyrics as mere reflections of rock’s wild reality. Ironically, a few unedited versions escaped, proving that even corporate censorship couldn’t tame the Stones’ swagger.

Jagger’s Take on Fame and Women

In a 1975 interview, Mick Jagger dismissed claims that the band was misogynistic, insisting Star Star was drawn from life, not fantasy. His blunt honesty about life on tour only added to the song’s myth.
