Ronnie’s Solo Swagger

By 1975, Ronnie Wood wasn’t officially a Rolling Stone yet—but he was already making big noise on his own. Now Look, his second solo album (after I’ve Got My Own Album to Do), came out while he was still tied up with Faces and slowly sliding into the Stones’ orbit. This record is peak Ronnie: rough-edged, soulful, funky, and dripping with swagger. It’s not polished, but that’s the point—it feels like a spontaneous jam session with your coolest, slightly drunk friends.

All-Star Cast, Loose Vibes

Now Look has a killer lineup. You’ve got Bobby Womack helping out with guitar and vocals, plus Keith Richards showing up for some support (because of course he did). The album’s sound leans into R&B and funk, with a loose-limbed groove that makes it feel more like a party than a polished studio project. Tracks like I Got Lost When I Found You and Breathe on Me show off Ronnie’s knack for writing raw, emotional songs—even if his voice isn’t conventionally “great,” it’s real and full of character.

Forgotten Gem Worth Revisiting

Now Look might not have topped charts or produced any mega-hits, but it’s one of those albums that rewards deep listening. It captures a moment in time—Ronnie between bands, full of ideas, and surrounded by legends. It’s got charm, grit, and a real sense of freedom. If you’re a Stones fan or just curious about Ronnie’s solo work, this album is definitely worth a spin. It shows that even before officially joining the Stones, Ronnie was already a major player with a distinct sound and style. Not bad for a so-called sideman. (Ref. The Rolling Stones Wood)
