The Rolling Stones have never shied away from paying tribute to their musical heroes, and their take on I’ve Got Dreams to Remember by Otis Redding is a prime example. Recorded in 1982, this version finnaly surfaced on the Fully Finished Studio Outtakes bootleg in 2021, giving fans a taste of the band’s soulful side. Unlike some of their more rough-cut outtakes, this one feels polished and ready for release, capturing the deep emotion of the original while adding that unmistakable Stones’ touch.

Mick Jagger delivers a heartfelt vocal performance, channeling Otis’ raw vulnerability while infusing it with his own style. His voice aches with longing, perfectly fitting the song’s bittersweet lyrics. Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood complement the mood with smooth, bluesy guitar work, while Charlie Watts’ steady groove and Bill Wyman’s warm bassline provide the perfect foundation.
A standout element in this recording is the organ, likely played by Chuck Leavell, which adds a rich, gospel-infused depth. The Stones stay true to the song’s essence but make it their own, blending their signature rock ‘n’ roll grit with the soul influences that shaped them from the start.
Though it never saw an official release, this rendition of I’ve Got Dreams to Remember remains a hidden gem among Stones bootlegs. It showcases their deep respect for Otis Redding and their ability to channel pure emotion through music. If you haven’t heard it yet, it’s well worth tracking down—you might just discover one of their most soulful performances ever.
