The Rolling Stones: Unraveling Brian Jones’ Death

A builder who lived with his girlfriend Janet Lawson, a nurse, in the guest apartment at Cotchford Farm, Brian’s house. He was there the night of Brian’s death and helped (Brian’s girlfriend) Anna Wohlin drag him out of the pool. On his death bed many years later, Thorogood confessed he had actually killed Brian, although the official verdict on Brian was “death by misadventure.”

The Tragic Complexity Behind Brian Jones’ Death

Brian Jones, the founding genius of The Rolling Stones, led a life as tangled as the lyrics of their song Complicated. Before his untimely death at 27 in 1969, he fathered six children with six different women, beginning at just sixteen. Despite his immense influence in creating the Stones — choosing members, naming the band, and shaping their early sound — Brian’s control slipped away as Jagger and Richards rose to dominate the band’s creative direction. Charlie Watts lamented, “We took his one thing away, which was being in a band.” Brian’s father and bandmates all witnessed his alarming decline, marred by jealousy, drug struggles, and isolation. Death, Doubt, and a Shadowy Cover-Up

Brian’s death by drowning in the pool behind Cotchford Farm, once owned by A.A. Milne, remains shrouded in mystery. The Stones’ chauffeur, Tom Keylock, claimed that Frank Thorogood, the disgruntled renovation worker, may have caused Brian’s demise after feeling cheated. Keylock even reported Thorogood’s chilling confession before his death. Yet, Brian’s last companion, Anna Wohlin, portrayed a man sober and optimistic about his musical future, challenging the image of a drug-addled outcast. Suspicion of a police cover-up lingers, fueled by claims from Keylock’s brother, a senior Scotland Yard detective, who allegedly warned investigations were deliberately stifled. Was Brian Jones a victim of more than just drugs and heartbreak? The truth remains tangled in shadows.
