About Marsha Hunt, mother of Mick Jagger’s daughter Karis
Singer and actress Marsha Hunt appeared in the British version of the hit musical Hair, but also remembered as the woman who gave birth to Mick’s daughter Karis while he was still involved with Marianne Faithfull. The child’s birth was kept quiet until Marsha sued Mick for child support payments in 1978. She wanted the payments raised from $17 a week to over $2,000 a month. Pending the outcome of the court case, the money that Mick had earned from his California concerts was held. Mick felt the matter could have been handled privately and was annoyed that Marsha went public with the news because his mother didn’t know about her grandchild. The case was eventually settled privately for the sake of the child.

Mick Jagger and Marsha Hunt: A Brief but Influential Romance
Mick Jagger’s relationship with Marsha Hunt, an American actress, model, and singer, marked a significant chapter in his personal life during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Hunt, who gained fame for her role in the London stage production of Hair, first caught Jagger’s attention with her striking beauty and charismatic presence. Their romance, though brief, was deeply impactful, as Hunt inspired Jagger creatively and personally.
A Rolling Stones Affair: The Muse Behind Brown Sugar and Mother of Karis
Hunt is widely regarded as the muse behind the Rolling Stones’ classic song Brown Sugar (which Mick wrote while filming the movie Ned Kelly in Australia in 1969, also commonly credited to Claudia Lennear, a former Ikette and one-time girlfriend of Mick), although Jagger has remained somewhat ambiguous about the song’s origins. During their relationship, Hunt and Jagger had a daughter, Karis Jagger, born in 1970. Initially, Jagger was hesitant to acknowledge his paternity, but he later embraced his role in Karis’s life, fostering a relationship with her as she grew older.
Although their relationship ended, Hunt and Jagger’s connection reflected the intersection of art, culture, and personal growth during a transformative era in rock history. Their story remains a fascinating footnote in Jagger’s legendary career. (Ref. Rolling Stones Affair)
