The Rolling Stones’ Lost Movie: A Rock ’n’ Roll What-If

In early 1966, rumors exploded that The Rolling Stones were heading to Hollywood. Fan magazines claimed Mick, Keith, Brian, Bill, and Charlie were set to star in a movie called Back Behind and In Front, co-directed by Andrew Loog Oldham and Allen Klein, with Aftermath as its soundtrack. Even Rebel Without a Cause director Nicholas Ray was reportedly on board—until Mick met him and decided he wasn’t the right fit. And just like that, the project vanished before a single frame was shot. No movie, no soundtrack tie-in—just one of those fascinating “what ifs” in Stones history, where rock ’n’ roll ambition met creative chaos and fizzled out in true Stones fashion.
