Keith Richards was born to Doris and Herbert Richards, their only son, on December 18 1943 at Livingstone Hospital in East Hill, Dartford, Kent, England. His maternal grandfather Theodore Augustus (Gus) Dupree was a musician who led a dance band in the 1930s, playing instruments such as the saxophone, piano, fiddle, and guitar. Keith attended Westhill Infants School from January 1948 to 1950 and then Wentworth starting in January 1951. It was at Wentworth that he first met Mick Jagger.
