The Rolling Stones live in Montevideo 2016
February 16, 2016, wasn’t just another stop on The Rolling Stones’ América Latina Olé Tour—it was a long-delayed reunion finally made real. When the band took the stage at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, decades of anticipation exploded into a shared release between rock legends and a country that had waited patiently for its turn. This wasn’t nostalgia on autopilot; it was urgency, chemistry, and mutual devotion. From fan-picked surprises to mass singalongs, the Stones didn’t play to Uruguay—they played with it, turning their first-ever Uruguayan show into one of the tour’s most emotionally charged nights.

Historic First: The Rolling Stones in Uruguay (2016)
The Rolling Stones finally rocked Uruguay for the first time ever on February 16, 2016 (after a planned 1995 show that never happened) as part of their América Latina Olé Tour. Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario was packed with thousands of ecstatic fans who had waited decades to see Mick, Keith, Ronnie, and Charlie tear it up live.
The energy was electric from the moment they hit the stage with Start Me Up. The crowd sang along to every word, making it clear that Uruguayans had been ready for this moment for a long time. The Stones delivered a killer setlist packed with classics like Gimme Shelter, Paint It Black, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, and Brown Sugar. A special highlight was She’s So Cold chosen by fan vote, adding a unique touch to an already historic night.
Montevideo Meets the Stones’ Eternal Swagger
Mick Jagger, as always, charmed the crowd, throwing in some Spanish and even a bit of Uruguayan slang, which drove fans wild. Keith Richards got his spotlight too, delivering Slipping Away and Can’t Be Seen with that signature swagger.
Montevideo had never seen anything quite like it. The Stones proved once again why they are the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world, leaving their Uruguayan fans with a night to remember. It may have been their first time in Uruguay (and probably their last) but the way the crowd responded, it felt like they had been playing there for years.
