More about The Rolling Stones in Roma, Italy 1967

Review from Corriere della Sera newspaper (April 7 1967):

Scenes of furious enthusiasm were seen yesterday during the afternoon show of the Rolling Stones, who performed at the Palazzo dello Sport. The wildest fans crowded around the stage squeezing each other and almost pushing it to the point of a collective brawl. There were injured and bruised people.
The English quintet that performed its most successful “classic” pieces received a welcome according to “all the rules” from the wild crowd of yé-yé: assaults on the footlights and the singers’ dressing rooms, clashes with the carabinieri and police, numerous young people injured and bruised (a dozen were later treated at the hospital) in the infernal crush; a screaming, incessant chorus, which drowned out the music and the songs of the Rolling Stones.

A young man, V.M. 19 years old, suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized at Sant’Eugenio: he had tried to climb over a gate but fell badly; a girl, now in the grip of hysteria, attempted to take a flight from the popular seats in the stalls and was barely held back. At the evening show, which instead took place in a more calm atmosphere, there were also Gina Lollobrigida, Jane Fonda, Brigitte Bardot, Roger Vadim and Vittorio Gassman. Tomorrow the Rolling Stones will be in Milano for two shows.
