The Rolling Stones Rock Zurich in 1967

On April 14th 1967 The Rolling Stones hit Zurich as part of their European tourโ€”and it was loud, wild, and a little chaotic, just how the Stones liked it. This tour turned out to be their last one with Brian Jones, the band’s founding multi-instrumentalist who was already showing signs of struggle, both musically and personally.

The Zurich show, held at the Hallenstadion, featured all the raw energy the Stones were known for. The band blasted through hits like Paint It, Black, The Last Time and Satisfaction, as thousands of fans screamed their heads off. Things even got rowdy in the crowdโ€”as was often the case during this eraโ€”and police had to step in to calm things down. But hey, that was the vibe back then: a Rolling Stones gig wasnโ€™t complete without a little chaos.

This 1967 tour, running through March and April, was a kind of turning point. While the Stones were still riding the high of their early success, behind the scenes, things were changing fastโ€”especially for Brian.

The Stones in Switzerland Over the Years

Switzerland has always been good to the Stones. After Zurich ’67, they returned for multiple shows across the decades. In 1976, they rocked Lausanne during the Black and Blue era. In 1995, they played Basel on the Voodoo Lounge Tour, and in 2003 they brought the Licks Tour to Zurich again, and back in Lausanne in 2007 during the A Bigger Bang tour. And so on…

Each time the Swiss crowds welcomed them with open armsโ€”and plenty of noise. Whether it was the experimental ’70s, stadium-sized ’90s, or the polished 2000s, The Rolling Stones and Switzerland have had a long, loud love affair.
