A Night to Remember in Oakland
On May 5, 2013, the Rolling Stones rolled into Oakland for one of the most memorable nights of their 50 & Counting tour. Known for celebrating five decades of rock and roll glory, this tour was packed with energy, swagger, and, of course, a killer setlist. The Oakland crowd was in for a treat as Mick, Keith, Charlie, and Ronnie tore through hit after hit with their usual electrifying presence.
From the moment they hit the stage, the band had the crowd on their feet. They launched into a string of classics, including Gimme Shelter, Sympathy for the Devil and the timeless (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction. But it wasn’t just about the big hits—fans were also treated to deeper cuts like Emotional Rescue (which, errr, actually never worked very fine live…) and the more recent Doom and Gloom, showing the band’s range and lasting creative spark.
Tom Waits Joins the Fun
One of the biggest surprises of the night came when Tom Waits joined the Stones for a special performance of Little Red Rooster. The smoky-voiced legend added a raw, bluesy twist to the song (no dount he can actually sound like the very Howlin’ Wolf himself) marking the first time they played it together since 2003. It was a standout moment, giving longtime fans something truly rare and unforgettable.
Oakland 2013 wasn’t just another stop on the tour—it was a reminder of why the Rolling Stones have stayed on top for so long. With a mix of deep cuts, fan favorites, and surprise guests, the night proved that even after 50 years, the Stones still know how to put on a show like no one else.
