Mick Jagger on the original name of the ‘Aftermath’ album (1966)
“Instead of the album title we suggested, ‘Could You Walk on The Water?’, they took a look at the photos we did in that reservoir in California and then suggested ‘By a Riverside’. I then said ‘By a Riverside’? Sounds like a bloody novelty record!’. Eventually though Andrew Oldham convinced us to cave in and just release it with that name. I’m not happy about it, but hey after The Beatles’ whole ‘bigger than Jesus fiasco’, I’m glad we didn’t call it that.”
