rolling stones songs all down the line alternate take 2010

In 2010, the Rolling Stones gave fans a real treat with the deluxe reissue of Exile on Main St., packed with outtakes, alternate versions, and some long-lost gems from the vault. But if you were in Japanโ€”or savvy enough to hunt down the Japanese editionโ€”you got an extra little surprise: a bonus-track version of All Down the Line (for those not in Japan, it was also available as a download-only song amazon.co.uk)

Now, All Down the Line has always been a fan favorite, a hard-hitting, riff-heavy rocker with that unmistakable Stones swagger. The version on Exile is pure magic, but this Japanese-exclusive bonus track brought a fresh take. Itโ€™s raw, slightly looser, and carries that unmistakable Exile grit that made the album such a masterpiece in the first place. While itโ€™s not a drastically different cut, it gives a glimpse into how the song evolved before the final version we all know and love.

The Exile on Main St. reissue as a whole was a major event. The album, originally released in 1972, had become legendaryโ€”not just for its music but for the wild, chaotic circumstances in which it was recorded. With the 2010 deluxe edition, fans got to hear previously unheard tracks like Plundered My Soul, Dancing in the Light, and Following the River, proving that the Stones had even more gems tucked away from those sessions.

But for collectors and die-hard fans, getting that exclusive Japanese edition with All Down the Line was like finding a hidden treasure. Itโ€™s one of those little details that make following the Stones so much funโ€”you never know when another rare track or alternate version is going to pop up and remind you why theyโ€™re the greatest rock โ€™nโ€™ roll band in the world. Sayonara!
