From Martin Elliott’s book THE ROLLING STONES COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS 1962-2012:
The Stones returned to the studio for January and February 1878. Most of the hard work had been done before Christmas, since all but one of the numbers for the Some Girls album had been completed. Do You Get Enough? was a jaunty piano and marimba based instrumental track with Ian Stewart and Bill Wymancontributing respectively on these instruments.

Don’t Be A Stranger – A Forgotten Gem Originally from the Some Girls Era

As 1978 dawned, The Rolling Stones found themselves back in the studio, refining their sound and polishing their upcoming album. While most of Some Girls had been wrapped up before the holiday season, there was still room for experimentation. Among the tracks that emerged during this period was Do You Get Enough?, a lively instrumental piece driven by piano and marimba, with Ian Stewart and Bill Wyman adding their signature touches. The recording sessions took place at EMI Pathé Marconi Studios in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, from January 5 to March 2, 1978. However, the track’s evolution didn’t stop there.

Decades later, in September 2011, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards revisited the song, layering overdubs at various locations. Mick recorded additional elements at Le Fork Studios in Pocé sur Cisse, France, and his home studio, La Fourchette. Meanwhile, Keith worked on his parts at Electric Lady Studios in New York City and Berkeley St. Studios in Los Angeles, breathing new life into the long-lost piece and giving it a new name: Don’t Be A Stranger.

Adding depth to the track, a handful of guest musicians contributed to the final mix. Blues harmonica virtuoso Sugar Blue, bassist Don Was, and percussionist Matt Clifford brought their unique styles, enhancing the song’s rhythmic and melodic textures. Though Do You Get Enough? never made it onto the original Some Girls, it remained an intriguing piece of the band’s creative history, at least till it finally saw the light in the expanded deluxe version of the album in 2011 as Don’t Be A Stranger.
