Rolling Stones unreleased: Carnival to Rio

Written by: Clapton
Recorded: Electric Lady Studios, New York, USA, June 25-30 1975
Guest musicians: George Terry (guitar), Billy Preston (keyboards), Dick Sims (keyboards), Carl Radle (bass), Jamie Oldaker (drums), Ollie Brown (percussion), Yvonne Elliman and Marcy Levy (backing vocals)

From Martin Elliott’s book THE ROLLING STONES COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS 1962-2012:
On June 22 1975 the show arrived in Madison Square Garden, New York for six nights. The encore number was Sympathy for the Devil and the support act The Steel Band Association of America joined in on percussion. Eric Clapton was in town and guested with the band for the encore. Carlos Santana was to do the same for the final night at the MSG. All of the band, Billy Preston and Ollie Brown reciprocated Eric’s performance by attending a recording session at Electric Ladyland. Carnival to Rio is an up tempo number with Mick Jagger very prominent vocals. It was intended for Eric Clapton’s next studio album No Reason to Cry. Due to contractual reasons it was re-recorded by Eric and appeared as Carnival.
