Rolling Stones unreleased: Never Let Her Go
Written by: Jagger/Richards
Recorded: Pathé Marconi Studios, Boulogne-Billancourt, France, Oct-Dec. 1977 (Some Girls sessions)
From Martin Elliott’s book THE ROLLING STONES COMPLETE RECORDING SESSIONS 1962-2012:
The soft ripples of piano from Ian Stewart with a lazy atmosphere accentuated by Mick Jagger’s sloven vocals suggest this song could have been worked upon.

The Pathé Marconi Sessions of 1977 mark a significant chapter in The Rolling Stones’ history, capturing the band at a transitional yet highly creative point. Following their extensive Black and Blue tour in 1976, the Stones regrouped in early 1977 to record new material. These sessions took place at Pathé Marconi Studios in Boulogne-Billancourt, a suburb of Paris, which became their go-to spot for recording throughout the late ’70s and early ’80s.
The band used Pathé Marconi as a secluded, distraction-free environment where they could experiment and refine their sound. This period served as the foundation for their 1978 album Some Girls, one of their most celebrated releases, blending rock, punk, and disco influences. During these sessions, the Stones recorded not only tracks that would appear on Some Girls but also a treasure trove of unreleased material and alternate takes that would surface decades later.
The Pathé Marconi recordings reflect the band’s raw energy and evolving creativity, with Mick Jagger’s biting lyrics and Keith Richards’ gritty guitar work leading the charge. These sessions also marked the increasing contributions of Ronnie Wood, who had recently solidified his role as the band’s second guitarist following Mick Taylor’s departure.
