Rolling Stones unreleased: Slow Blues
SOME OTHER GIRLS
While recording Some Girls in ’78 at Pathé Marconi Studios, the Stones cooked up more than just hits—they stumbled on Slow Blues, a smoky, unpolished gem. This raw jam lets them kick back, groove hard, and remind everyone why their blues roots are untouchable. No polish, no fuss—just swagger, loose riffs, and that effortless cool only the Stones can pull off. A hidden slice of rock history that’s pure attitude in every note.

A Hidden Groove from the Some Girls Sessions
In early 1978, while holed up at Pathé Marconi Studios in France, The Rolling Stones were deep into what would become their Some Girls album—an energetic, genre-blending record that captured punk, disco, and country flavors. But buried among those high-energy tracks was a loose, smoky gem: Slow Blues. Never officially released, this raw studio jam finds the band returning to their roots with effortless swagger.
There’s no polish, no radio ambition—just a stripped-down, after-midnight kind of groove that lets the band breathe. Jagger moans and mutters his way through the track like he’s channeling a Chicago bluesman at closing time, while Richards lays down slinky riffs and bluesy bends with casual confidence. It feels more like a vibe than a song—a laid-back session where the tape just happened to be rolling. That looseness is its charm, reminding us that, underneath the glitter and stadium shows, the Stones are still, at heart, a blues band.
The Magic They Didn’t Release
Written by the iconic Jagger/Richards duo, Slow Blues is more than a throwaway—it’s a snapshot of a moment when the Stones were letting instincts lead. While Some Girls was shaped by New York energy and modern studio tricks, this track feels like a forgotten postcard from the band’s early days. It never made the final album cut—maybe it felt too relaxed compared to the punchier material. But in hindsight, that’s exactly what makes it valuable: it captures a looser, more intimate side of the Stones that often gets lost behind their big hits. For fans of their deeper blues roots, Slow Blues is a small revelation.
