By the time the Rolling Stones hit Stade De L’Ouest in Nice on June 13, 1976, they were deep into their Tour of Europe ’76, a wild ride supporting their Black and Blue album. The tour had already been packed with high-energy performances, outrageous outfits (thanks, Mick), and plenty of backstage chaos. France was no exception.
That night in Nice, the Stones delivered a powerhouse set, mixing their latest material with the classics fans craved. Mick Jagger, ever the showman, strutted across the stage in his colorful, glam-inspired outfits, while Keith Richards, despite his rock ‘n’ roll excesses, kept the riffs razor-sharp. The band was locked in, with Ronnie Wood still proving himself as the “new guy” after joining the band in 1975, Bill Wyman holding down the groove, and Charlie Watts, as always, keeping everything tight behind the kit.
The Black and Blue tracks, including Hot Stuff and Fool to Cry, added a fresh flavor to the setlist, but the crowd roared the loudest for classics like Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Brown Sugar, and Midnight Rambler. By the time they closed the show, sweat-drenched and running on pure adrenaline, it was clear they’d left the audience in awe.
The 1976 Tour of Europe wasn’t exactly their smoothest, but it had that raw, unrefined energy that Stones fans crave. The show in Nice was no different: classic rock ‘n’ roll, delivered in the only way the Stones do it—loud, chaotic, and unforgettable. It wasn’t polished, but that’s part of what made it so special. The band brought the wild energy they’re known for, and the crowd loved every second of it. It might not have been perfect, but it sure left a lasting impression—just the way fans like it.
