More about Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood on the All the King’s Men album
*By Marcelo Sonaglioni

In 1997, two rock ‘n’ roll legends, Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana—best known as Elvis Presley’s original guitarist and drummer—released All the King’s Men, a tribute album packed with collaborations from some of the biggest names in rock. Given how much Elvis influenced the Rolling Stones and other British rockers, it’s no surprise that Keith Richards and Ron Wood jumped in to pay homage.
Keith, always a fan of classic rock ‘n’ roll, teamed up with Levon Helm and Rick Danko of The Band to record Deuce and a Quarter, a bluesy, groove-filled track that oozes the kind of loose, swaggering vibe you’d expect from him. Ron Wood, another longtime Elvis admirer, took part as well, bringing his signature slide guitar style into the mix along Jeff Beck on Unsung Heroes.
The album featured a lineup of legends, from Steve Cropper to Joe Ely, Cheap Tric, The Stray Cats’ Lee Rocker, Steve Earle (and more guests, including even the Bill Black Combo!), all paying tribute to the roots of rock ‘n’ roll. For Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana, it was a chance to remind the world of their impact on music while jamming with the very artists they helped inspire.
All the King’s Men is more than just a tribute album—it’s a powerful celebration of rock ‘n’ roll’s roots, bringing together the very pioneers who shaped the genre with the musicians they inspired. This album isn’t just about honoring the past; it’s about keeping the spirit of early rock alive, showing how its influence continues to resonate through some of the greatest artists of all time.
