The Rolling Stones in the press: “Stones American Diary”

The Rolling Stones’ Tour of the Americas ’75 was pure rock ‘n’ roll chaos wrapped in glitter, boas, and whatever Keith Richards found in his suitcase. Kicking off in June 1975, this was the band’s first tour with Ronnie Wood, who somehow survived being thrown into the madness of the Stones’ traveling circus. Mick Taylor had just left, but no worries—Ronnie slid right in, and if he wasn’t quite official yet, the gallons of Jack Daniel’s made up for it.

The tour had everything: giant inflatable phalluses (because why not?), a lotus-shaped stage that “bloomed” open (sometimes), and Mick Jagger entering shows by swinging over the crowd like some kind of rock ‘n’ roll Tarzan. Oh, and Keith? He was at peak indestructibility, proving once again that sleep is for the weak.

Of course, there were the usual Stones tour shenanigans—run-ins with the law, late starts, and enough champagne to float a yacht. At one point, Keith and Ronnie got arrested in Arkansas, which sounds like the setup for a bad joke, but no, it actually happened.

Musically, the setlists were killer—Honky Tonk Women, Brown Sugar, Gimme Shelter—the classics mixed with fresh cuts from It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll. The band was loud, loose, and completely unpredictable, just the way fans wanted them.

By the time the tour wrapped up in August, the Stones had left a trail of destruction, sweat, and possibly unpaid bar tabs across North America. It was big, messy, excessive, and legendary—the perfect example of why the Stones were, and still are, the ultimate rock ‘n’ roll band. A Stones American tour in 1975? Not just any tour, you see.
