Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards, and the 1974 Kilburn Shows

Before officially joining The Rolling Stones, Ronnie Wood was already jamming with Keith Richards and making waves on his own. In July 1974, Wood hosted two solo shows at the Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, London, on the 13th and 14th—an event that would become legendary among Stones fans. These gigs were in support of his debut solo album I’ve Got My Own Album to Do, which featured appearances from several high-profile friends, including Richards himself.

Keith joined Ronnie onstage for both nights, further fueling rumors that Wood would soon become a full-time Stone. Their chemistry was undeniable, trading licks and laughs in front of an electrified crowd. The shows were packed with star power and gave fans a glimpse of the future sound of the Stones, blending raw energy with tight, blues-driven rock. (Ref. Keith Richards joins Wood)

These Kilburn concerts weren’t just solo showcases—they marked a turning point in rock history. Just a year later, Ronnie would officially replace Mick Taylor as guitarist for The Rolling Stones, sealing a partnership with Keith Richards that would define the band’s next era. But in July 1974, it was all still unfolding, and fans lucky enough to be there witnessed history in the making.
