A Legendary Surprise: The Rolling Stones at Echoplex

On April 27, 2013 The Rolling Stones delivered an unforgettable surprise performance at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Announced just hours before the show via Twitter, tickets were sold for $20 at the El Rey Theatre through a lottery system, drawing hundreds of fans eager for a chance to see the legendary band in an intimate setting. The 700-capacity venue was filled with anticipation as Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and Charlie Watts took the stage. The band opened with You Got Me Rocking and proceeded to play a 14-song set that included classics like Street Fighting Man, Miss You and Start Me Up.

An Intimate Night of Rock ‘n’ Roll

The performance was notable not only for its surprise nature but also for its raw energy and the band’s connection with the audience. Former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor joined the band for renditions of Love in Vain and Midnight Rambler, adding to the night’s special atmosphere .

The absence of cameras and smartphones allowed fans to fully immerse themselves in the experience, creating a unique and nostalgic concert environment. The Echoplex show served as a warm-up for the Stones’ U-S. leg of the 50 & Counting tour, which kicked off a week later at the Staples Center. This rare club performance reminded fans and critics alike of The Rolling Stones’ enduring appeal and their ability to deliver powerful performances, regardless of the venue size.
