His father, Basil, was a physical education teacher, while his mother, Eva, was an active member of the Conservative Party. Young Mick showed an early interest in music, listening to blues and rock records that would later influence his iconic style.
Jagger attended Dartford Grammar School, where he excelled academically but found his true passion in music. By his teenage years, he had developed a deep fascination with American blues artists like Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. He started collecting records, immersing himself in the gritty sounds that would shape his career.
A unique moment came in 1960 when Jagger reconnected with Keith Richards, an old schoolmate, on a train platform. The two bonded over their shared love of music, especially blues and rock ‘n’ roll. This meeting sparked the beginning of a lifelong partnership that would define the Rolling Stones.
While Jagger briefly enrolled at the London School of Economics, his passion for music soon took over. He performed with local bands, honing his stage presence and vocal style. By the early 1960s, Jagger’s charisma and musical talent became impossible to ignore.
