Rolling Stones Quotes: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards on touring Europe (1982)
Mick: “We don’t make any money is one of the reasons we don’t tour Europe frequently. And life is only so long… And – we just figured we should really go because if it’s gonna be (laughs) another 7 years, we may never go again. I mean, that’s a real – you’ve really got to face up to that (laughs). I mean, we’ll never go again, that’ll be the last time definitely we go to Europe, unless we go the year after. Not in this band, in this place, I mean… it’s impossible.”
Keith: “I need this to keep me young. When we started this band we thought we had about two or three years. Now it’s habit and it’s absolutely vital that it works on the road. We need constant contact with a living audience. We’re so excited about the prospect of doing Britain again after so long. Wherever we might make our home now, Britain is where our roots are.”

Rolling Stones’ 1982 European Tour: Rocking the Stadiums
In the summer of 1982, the Rolling Stones took over Europe with one of their biggest tours ever. Hot on the heels of Tattoo You, the band hit the road for a massive stadium tour, bringing their signature rock and roll chaos to packed crowds across the continent. It was their first European tour in six years, and they made sure to make it unforgettable.
With a massive stage setup and an even bigger sound, the Stones played to some of the largest audiences of their career.
From London’s Wembley Stadium to Germany, France, and beyond, they tore through classics like Start Me Up, Brown Sugar, and Jumpin’ Jack Flash, proving they were still the greatest rock band on the planet. The energy was off the charts, with Mick Jagger running the stage like a madman, Keith Richards and Ron Wood trading fiery guitar licks, and Charlie Watts keeping it all locked in with his steady groove.
This tour also marked the last time the Stones would play with pianist Ian Stewart before his passing in 1985. Looking back, touring Europe in 1982 was the end of an era—stadium rock at its peak, with the Stones leading the charge.
