From the The Rolling Stones – All the Songs book:
“Too Tight” is a song written mainly by Keith Richards and then reworked
by Mick Jagger. Don’t try to reel me in/with all those charm school
looks/I’ve seen it all a thousand times/I sung that song
… Are these words
addressed to the groupies who hang around backstage at the end of every
Stones concert? Perhaps not. A phrase such as: Baby, don’t get too tight
with me/Yes, you’re far too tight
for me seems to relate more to the private
sphere—and more specifically to the singer’s by now stormy relationship
with Jerry Hall (even before his affair with the Brazilian top model Luciana
Morad and the birth of their son). In 2010, Jerry Hall would reveal in her
memoir excerpted in the Daily Mail: “Over ten years, the Stones staged five
world tours. Mick started to miss important family events—children’s
birthdays and our anniversary. I was heartbroken that he wasn’t home in
time for the birth of our fourth child, Gabriel, in December 1997.… Mick
called while I was in labour to say he was so sorry he could not be there. He
arrived home a week later. Then, after a holiday, he went back to the band’s
Bridges to Babylon tour.”
