Buster Poindexter was at the time the stage persona of David Johansen (aka David Jo) the lead singer of the influential proto-punk band The New York Dolls. In the late 1980s Johansen transformed his image into a flamboyant, swing-inspired character.
Poindexter’s music blends jump blues, pop, and novelty tunes, often featuring a big band sound. His biggest hit Hot Hot Hot became a worldwide sensation and catapulted him to international fame Even though this single was a major success, Poindexter’s discography showcases a variety of musical styles and performances. His live shows were renowned for their dynamic and theatrical energy.
