Back in 1984, Mick Jagger made an appearance on Friday Night Videos, and let’s just say he wasn’t exactly taking things seriously (which by the way was very Mick) In peak ‘80s fashion, Jagger delivered a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek segment that was equal parts awkward, hilarious, and effortlessly cool—basically, classic Mick.
At the time, Friday Night Videos was the go-to show for people who didn’t have MTV, airing the biggest music videos of the week. So, having Jagger on was a big deal. But instead of just promoting his latest work, he played it like he was reluctantly dragged into the whole thing, throwing in dry humor and exaggerated enthusiasm. You could almost hear him rolling his eyes between lines.
Dressed in full ‘80s rock star mode—because of course he was—Jagger cracked jokes, made fun of the format, and acted like he was way too cool to care (which, let’s be honest, he was). It was the kind of performance only he could pull off: completely unserious yet still effortlessly charming.
This was around the time he was launching his solo career, gearing up for She’s the Boss (1985), so there was definitely some promotion happening—just in the most Mick Jagger way possible. Whether he was poking fun at the music industry, video culture, or just the whole idea of him playing TV host, it was a moment that fans still remember.
