The Rolling Stones’ 1976 European tour was a wild ride—not exactly their finest hour, but certainly memorable. Fresh off the release of Black and Blue, the band hit the road in April, playing a mix of arenas and stadiums across the continent. But let’s be honest: this wasn’t 1969 or even 1972. The performances were… let’s say, “inconsistent.” Some nights, they were on fire; other nights, they looked like they’d rather be anywhere else.

Mick Jagger, ever the showman, strutted around in his flashy jumpsuits, doing his best to keep things exciting. Keith Richards, well… let’s just say he was deep in his “chemically enhanced” phase, and some of his playing reflected that. Ron Wood, the new guy in the lineup, was still finding his footing as a full-time Stone, while Bill Wyman and Charlie Watts, as always, held things together like the pros they were.

The tour had its share of drama—canceled shows, technical disasters, and an infamous incident in Frankfurt where a fan decided to jump on stage and got a fistful of Keith’s guitar in response. The setlist was solid, though, with most of their classics alongside new tracks like Hot Stuff and Fool to Cry—the latter proving that even rock gods weren’t immune to sappy ballads.

By the end of the tour in August, the Stones had survived another round of chaos. Not their best tour, not their worst—but hey, it was the ‘70s, and excess was the name of the game.
