In 2008, Ronnie Wood of The Rolling Stones joined the Stereophonics for a special performance in London, playing “Don’t Let Me Down” live. The collaboration showcased a blending of iconic rock sounds with the Welsh band’s signature style. This event was part of an ongoing tradition of musical crossovers and guest appearances, which further cemented Wood’s role as a collaborator across genres.
The Stereophonics are a Welsh rock band formed in 1992 in Cwmaman, Wales. The original lineup consisted of Kelly Jones (vocals, guitar), Stuart Cable (drums), and Richard Jones (bass). They rose to fame in the late 1990s with their debut album Word Gets Around (1997), which earned critical acclaim and commercial success, featuring hits like Local Boy in the Photograph. Their sound, a mix of rock, post-grunge, and Britpop, earned them a dedicated fanbase.
Over the years, the Stereophonics released several successful albums, including Performance and Cocktails (1999) and Just Enough Education to Perform (2001). Despite lineup changes, with drummer Stuart Cable leaving in 2003, the band continued to thrive, exploring more mature and diverse musical styles. Their consistent chart presence and global tours solidified their reputation as one of the prominent British rock acts of the 2000s and beyond.
