More about The Rolling Stones and their Beggars Banquet party in 1968

*By Marcelo Sonaglioni
Fun fun fun… The Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet release party at the Gore Hotel in London on December 5, 1968, was pure rockโ€™nโ€™roll chaos, but in a funny way! What started as a fancy dinner to celebrate their back-to-basics bluesy album quickly turned into one of the wildest nights in Stones history.

The hotel was transformed into a medieval banquet hall, with long tables overflowing with roasted pigs, piles of food, and endless bottles of wine. Guests were encouraged to dress the part, and the room was filled with flamboyant costumes, rock stars, and artists, creating a scene straight out of a Renaissance fair gone wrong.

As the night went on, the party spiraled into glorious mayhem. The fancy dinner turned into a full-on food fight, with dishes flying across the room and wine spilling everywhere. The Stones, of course, were right in the thick of it, laughing, throwing food, and loving every minute.

It wasnโ€™t just a partyโ€”it was a statement. This was the Stones showing the world they werenโ€™t about polite gatherings or buttoned-up events. They were wild, unpredictable, and unapologetically themselves. Beggars Banquet was their way of embracing their gritty, bluesy roots, and the party was the perfect way to kick it off.

By the end of the night, the Gore Hotel was a mess, but the Stones had left their mark. The party became legendary, a fitting celebration for an album that marked a turning point in their iconic career.
