Today in Rolling Stones history: February 3
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
February 3 traces a remarkable path through The Rolling Stones’ history, linking early ambition, global fame, and lasting influence. On this date, the band moved from mid-’60s touring intensity to prime-time British television, later filling massive stadiums in the U.S. and launching landmark tours in South America. Decades on, February 3 also connects to solo projects and collaborations that show how the Stones’ orbit extends well beyond the core lineup. Seen together, these moments highlight a band that never stood still—shifting between stages, screens, and eras while continuing to shape rock history across generations.

Feb. 3, 1966: The Stones make an appearance on Top Of The Pops (BBC1, UK TV), where they taped two separate takes of 19th Nervous Breakdown. As was often the case with the show, multiple versions were recorded to give producers options, capturing slightly different performances of the same song. It’s a small but telling snapshot of how the band navigated the demands of prime-time television while still bringing their own edge to a tightly controlled studio environment.
