Back in the swinging ’60s, Shindig! was one of the hottest music shows on TV, bringing rock ’n’ roll straight into American living rooms. Premiering in 1964, the show quickly became a must-watch for fans of the British Invasion, soul, and early rock. It featured a mix of live performances (no miming here!), go-go dancers, and some of the biggest names in music. Everyone from The Beatles to The Beach Boys made appearances, and of course, The Rolling Stones were no exception.

The Stones first hit the Shindig! stage in December 1964, delivering electrifying performances that helped cement their reputation in the U.S. At the time, they were still riding the wave of their early success, breaking into the American market with their bluesy, rebellious sound.

One of the most memorable episodes featuring the band aired on May 20 1965. It wasn’t just any show—it was a special dedicated to blues legend Howlin’ Wolf. The Stones, who had always been vocal about their love for American blues, got to introduce him to a wider audience, then followed by Wolf performing How Many More Years with the Stones sitting around him, among other guests.

Performing songs like Time Is on My Side and Around and Around through the years (or in this case, Heart of Stone), the Stones brought their signature raw energy to the Shindig! stage, winning over American teens and fueling their rapid rise. The show itself only lasted until 1966, but in its short run, it played a key role in spreading rock music and bringing British bands into the U.S. spotlight. For the Stones, it was another step on their path to becoming the world’s greatest rock ’n’ roll band.
