Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards Gets Candid in 1969 Interview
In a candid interview published in the New Musical Express on December 6, 1969, Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones let loose on a range of topics, giving fans a rare, unfiltered look into his thoughts during a turning point in rock history. Speaking about everything from his bandmate Mick Jagger to contemporary acts like The Beatles, Blind Faith, and Jethro Tull, Richards pulled no punches.
Regarding Mick, Keith offered his usual blend of admiration and critique, hinting at the creative tensions that often fueled their legendary songwriting partnership. On The Beatles, Keith had mixed feelings—acknowledging their studio brilliance but throwing shade on their public image and perceived lack of authenticity by that point.
From Faith to Tull: Richards Has Thoughts
Richards didn’t stop there. He dismissed Blind Faith as overrated, suggesting that the hype surrounding the supergroup overshadowed the music itself. His commentary reflected a broader skepticism about the direction rock was taking at the close of the decade—more polish, less raw soul.
