August 26 has a surprisingly crowded place in Rolling Stones history. From early club dates in London to packed stadiums decades later, this date keeps turning up whenever the Stones were busy making noise, making plans, or simply refusing to slow down. In 1981, Mick Jagger was already talking about a long future on the road, apparently unaware that the band’s definition of “considerable period” would become rather impressive. Later August 26 shows took the Stones from Madison and Berlin to Hartford and London, with setlists changing along the way. And yes, they were still at it in 2019. Some things apparently never need retirement.

August 26, 1981: JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
