Today in Rolling Stones history: June 27
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
If June 27 is any indication, The Rolling Stones have spent six decades proving that “normal” is purely a suggestion. From the basement-level grit of 1963 London clubs to the pyrotechnic madness of Kansas City stadiums, the band has treated the calendar like a personal playground. Even their latest surprise in 2025, the swampy, accordion-drenched tribute Zydeco Sont Pas Salés proves they aren’t done shaking things up. Whether they’re navigating legal jail-time debacles or trading licks with guests like Ed Sheeran, the Stones remain rock’s ultimate shape-shifters—stubbornly refusing to act their age while ensuring that every June 27 stays permanently loud.

June 27, 1967: The summer of 1967 brought a harsh reality check for The Rolling Stones. At Chichester court art dealer (and Stones friend) Robert Fraser pleaded guilty to heroin possession, while a jury convicted Mick Jagger for possessing Benzedrine. The legal hammer fell hard as both were hauled off to spend a jarring night at Lewes prison. Although Jagger appealed, that night behind bars shattered the illusion of untouchability, marking a violent collision between swinging sixties stardom and the unforgiving reach of the law. It was a sobering reminder that for the band, the party had suddenly, and aggressively, hit a wall.

June 27, 2025: Release of the Clifton Chenier tribute single Zydeco Sont Pas Salés, featuring:
Side A: Zydeco Sont Pas Salés (original version by Clifton Chenier)
Side B: Zydeco Sont Pas Salés (The Rolling Stones featuring Steve Riley)
Later included in the A Tribute To The King Of Zydeco album, the track showcases Mick Jagger singing in Creole French, perfectly blended with the band’s trademark, gritty blues-rock guitar style, plus Steve Riley’s accordion and Ivan Neville’s vocals, among other guests.
