September 10, 1973: The BBC decided to ban the RStones’ track Star Star from their freshly released album Goat’s Head Soup. The reason was simple but controversial: the song’s chorus repeatedly used the word “starfucker,” a term that appeared around a dozen times. Despite the Stones’ reputation for provocative lyrics and rebellious style, the BBC judged this particular choice of wording too explicit for airplay. The ban quickly added to the song’s notoriety, reinforcing the band’s image as rock’s ultimate troublemakers. Rather than suppressing it, the decision only fueled curiosity, drawing even more attention to the album and its daring content.
