A Rolling Stones Night in KC

You could feel it in the air—something big was about to happen. On June 27, 2015, The Rolling Stones returned to Kansas City for the first time since 1999, turning Arrowhead Stadium into a roaring temple of rock. Under unusually perfect skies, fans tailgated, laughed, and soaked in the pre-show buzz. The night opened with Ed Sheeran, solo but mighty, using loop pedals and charm to warm up the crowd. His cover of Stevie Wonder’s I Was Made to Love Her got one of the loudest cheers of the set.

But once the Stones hit the stage at 9:30 p.m., the entire night shifted into overdrive. Ditching their usual opener, they launched into Start Me Up, and just like that, the decades melted away. Mick Jagger stormed the stage in full throttle, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood locked into glorious guitar interplay, and Charlie Watts held it all together with effortless precision. The pace was fast, the sound loud and sharp, and the energy—electric.

Still at the Top of Their Game

Though the band’s median age hovered around 70, you wouldn’t have known it. Jagger danced and sprinted the length of the catwalk, Richards flashed his iconic grin while fronting Before They Make Me Run, and Wood’s riffs lit up the stadium. Their chemistry was undeniable, the respect between them as tight as ever. Highlights? A wild Midnight Rambler, the crowd-voted Street Fighting Man and a soaring encore with You Can’t Always Get What You Want featuring the UMKC Chamber Choir.

As fireworks lit up the sky and Satisfaction closed out the night, it didn’t feel like a farewell—it felt like a celebration. If it was goodbye, Kansas City couldn’t have asked for a better one.
