The Stones’ Steel Wheels Tour kicked off in North America in August 1989, marking the band’s big return to the road and supporting their Steel Wheels album. After tearing through the U.S. and Canada, the tour rolled into Japan in February 1990, where the Stones played ten massive shows at the Tokyo Dome. When the band hit Europe later that year, from May through August 1990, the tour took on a new identity. With a redesigned stage and a different visual style, the European leg was renamed the Urban Jungle Tour, giving it a distinct look and feel from the earlier shows.

Historically, the tour was significant for several reasons. It became the longest tour the Stones had ever done at that point, more than doubling the number of shows they typically played during their classic 1960s and 1970s runs. It also marked the final live appearances of the band with original bassist Bill Wyman, closing an important chapter in the Stones’ long touring history.
