Today in Rolling Stones history: February 25
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
February 25 stands out in Rolling Stones history, but in 1985 it marked a true turning point: the release of She’s the Boss, Mick Jagger’s first solo album. After decades fronting The Rolling Stones, Jagger stepped into the spotlight alone, embracing the glossy, MTV-driven sound of the mid-’80s. Produced with Nile Rodgers and Bill Laswell, the record blended rock, pop, and dance in bold new ways. From Grammy moments to massive world tours, February 25 traces an evolving legacy—one date that captures reinvention, ambition, and the business power behind rock’s most enduring band.

February 25, 1985: Release of She’s the Boss, Mick’s first solo album (CBS 86310) This release marked a major turning point in the career of Mick Jagger, as it became his first official solo album after more than two decades fronting The Rolling Stones. The project arrived during a tense period within the band, as creative differences between Jagger and Keith Richards were beginning to surface publicly. Produced by Jagger alongside Bill Laswell and Nile Rodgers, the album leaned heavily into the slick, high-gloss production style of the mid-1980s. It blended rock with contemporary pop, R&B, and dance influences—very much in line with the MTV era.
