Today in Rolling Stones history: February 27
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
On February 27, The Rolling Stones history takes some wild turns. In 1977, Keith Richards faced serious drug charges in Toronto. A year earlier, Bill Wyman stepped out with Stone Alone, revealing a subtle, groove-driven solo voice. Same date, totally different headlines. But February 27 also roars onstage—from 1964 in Sheffield to massive nights in Tokyo (1990) and São Paulo (2016) Add early London club gigs and a 2013 NME Awards win, and one date becomes a microcosm of chaos, reinvention, and endurance in Stones chronology.

February 27, 1976: Release of Stone Alone, Bill Wyman’s second solo album, marked a confident step forward for the Rolling Stones bassist as a solo artist. Issued in 1976, the record showcased a more personal and rhythm-driven side of Wyman, blending rock, blues, and groove-heavy arrangements with understated charm. Unlike the arena-sized sound he helped create with The Rolling Stones, Stone Alone felt intimate and exploratory, highlighting Wyman’s interest in layered instrumentation and tight musicianship. The album reflected his quiet but steady creativity during a decade when the band itself was navigating both excess and evolution.
