February 4, 1966: Release of the 19th Nervous Breakdown / As Tears Go By 7″ single in the UK (Decca F 12331)
The single reached No. 2 on both the US and UK charts, cementing its international appeal, and became the fifth best-selling single of 1966 in the UK, reflecting the band’s growing influence and the song’s enduring popularity among fans.
Mick on the song (1966): “I get inspiration from things that are happening around me, everyday life as I see it. People say I’m always singing about pills and breakdowns, therefore I must be an addict. This is ridiculous. Some people are so narrow-minded they won’t admit to themselves that this really does happen to other people beside pop stars.”

February 4, 1970: A high-level business meeting representing The Rolling Stones concluded that, to escape the heavy British taxes of 1971, the band would need to relocate from England to France. This bold move allowed them greater financial freedom and creative control, setting the stage for a new chapter in their legendary career. The rest is history.
