Today in Rolling Stones history: July 28
*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
Some dates in Rolling Stones history are easy to overlook—until you realize they somehow connect the band’s scrappy club days, massive stadium tours, and one of Mick Jagger’s most unexpected solo moves. July 28 is one of those strange crossroads. It begins with the group’s second-ever performance, jumps through unforgettable concerts from Honolulu to Paris, and eventually lands on Mick Jagger’s single Gotta Get A Grip, a solo blast that sounded like he had no interest in quietly watching the world unravel. Apparently, whether performing for a few dozen fans or a packed stadium, standing still was never really part of the plan.

July 28, 2017: Release of Mick Jaggerr’s CD-single and 12″ single Gotta Get A Grip / England Lost, with Ronnie and Charlie as guests.
Released unexpectedly in 2017 alongside England Lost as the B-side, Gotta Get A Grip delivers gritty, bluesy rock fueled by political unrest and modern-day frustration. Critics praised its pounding riffs, driving rhythm, and classic Stones spirit, with many considering it the stronger of the two songs despite its straightforward political message.
