June 5, 1965: Release of the (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction / The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man 7″ single in the U.S. (London 9766)

(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction is the Rolling Stones’ defining track and most famous hit, driven by Keith Richards’ iconic fuzz riff and a blues-rooted but fully rock sound. Mick Jagger moves from restrained, sarcastic verses to explosive choruses that express frustration with modern life, media, and relationships. Released first in the U.S., it quickly topped global charts, establishing the Stones as a dominant force of the era, second only to the Beatles, and inspiring countless covers.
As for The Under Assistant West Coast Promotion Man, this is the Stones aiming their sarcasm at the music industry itself in 1965. Built on a bluesy groove, it mocks inflated job titles and promotional hype. Mick Jagger delivers it with sly amusement, hinting at rock’s early distrust of corporate image.
