*Click for DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
March 22 traces an interesting arc through The Rolling Stones’ history, revealing how small club beginnings evolved into global dominance. From early gigs in Windsor and the Isle of Wight during the raw R&B years, to major tour announcements and stadium-filling performances across Japan and the U.S., this date captures constant reinvention. It also highlights key connections, like Mick Taylor’s blues roots with John Mayall, shaping the band’s sound. March 22 isn’t just a timeline—it’s a snapshot of growth, influence, and the enduring power of rock and roll.
March 22, 1963: Ricky Tick Club, Windsor, England
March 22, 1964: Esplanade Pavilion, Ryde, Isle of Wight, England

March 22, 1990: Mick holds a press conference at the Tabernacle Club in London, England, announcing the Stones’ 1990 Urban Jungle Tour of Europe.
March 22, 1993: Release of John Mayall‘s CD Wake Up Call, with Mick Taylor as guest on two tracks: Wake Up Call and Not At Home. Before joining the Rolling Stones, Mick Taylor played with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers from 1967 to 1969. At just 18, he replaced Peter Green and quickly made his mark with fluid, expressive guitar work. Taylor contributed to albums like Crusade, Blues from Laurel Canyon and Bare Wires, showcasing his technical skill and bluesy phrasing. His time with Mayall refined his playing and set the stage for his future with the Stones. Mayall’s mentorship helped Taylor develop his signature melodic style, blending blues, rock, and jazz influences. When Brian Jones left the Rolling Stones in 1969, Mayall recommended Taylor, leading to his legendary tenure with the band. Taylor’s days with Mayall remain a crucial chapter in his career.
