Today in Rolling Stones history: May 12
*Click for more DAILY ROLLING STONES CHRONOLOGY 1962-present
From chaotic studio sessions to glamorous weddings, historic concerts and late-career reissues, May 12 captures how The Rolling Stones somehow turned every era into headline material. One day they were filming promos for Jumpin’ Jack Flash, the next they were causing media hysteria in the South of France or redefining rock diplomacy in Havana in 2016. Even a simple awards show appearance involving Ron Wood and Rod Stewart in 1993 became part of the band’s endlessly strange mythology. Apparently, normal career timelines were never really their thing.

Although they hadn’t toured that year, instead focusing on recording Beggars Banquet, the Stones had a hectic schedule. Just a day earlier, they shot promo videos for Jumpin’ Jack Flash and Child of the Moon, both directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg.

May 12, 1971: Mick marries Bianca (Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias) at St. Anne’s Church, in St. Tropez, France. Mick, then 27, married 26-year-old Nicaraguan Bianca in a highly publicized Roman Catholic ceremony that included guests like the other members of the Stones, Brigitte Bardot, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Peter Frampton, Bobby Keys, Ronnie Wood and Stephen Stills. They finally split in 1977. News of Mick and Bianca’s wedding quickly spread, drawing crowds of fans and paparazzi. The couple couldn’t avoid the media frenzy, and even Mick’s father once told a reporter, “I hope my second son never becomes a superstar.” Though their marriage lasted just seven years, it remains one of the most talked-about celebrity unions.
