May 2, 1964: The Stones self-titled first album starts a 12-week run at No.1 on the UK charts. The Rolling Stones’ spent a total of 51 weeks on the chart. It was also on this day that the Stones made their first appearance on the US singles chart with ‘Not Fade Away’, which entered it at No.98.

May 2, 2006: Keith is released from hKeith Richards was released from hospital in New Zealand after suffering what doctors described as a “mild concussion” following a fall from a coconut tree while vacationing in Fiji. The incident occurred during a break in the Rolling Stones’ tour, and Richards was quickly airlifted to Auckland’s Ascot Hospital for precautionary observation. While there, he underwent a series of tests, including a brain scan, to ensure there was no serious damage. Thankfully, the scan showed no major injury, and Richards was reported to be in good spirits. His condition was monitored closely by medical staff before he was discharged. Despite the scare, the legendary guitarist maintained his trademark humor, joking about the fall and reassuring fans that he was on the mend.
