The Stones hit the road across the U.S. in 1981 for their Tattoo You tour, pulling in a massive $50 million and playing to 2.5 million fans. It became the biggest tour of the year, smashing ticket records—New Orleans even set one that lasted over three decades. Jagger wasn’t keen at first, but Keith and Ronnie talked him into it.

The Rolling Stones’ Voodoo Lounge Tour kicked off in 1994, backing their new album and marking their first run without Bill Wyman—Darryl Jones jumped in on bass. The band crushed it, raking in $320 million and becoming the highest-grossing tour at the time. Jagger laughed off critics who said they were done, saying once they hit the stage, the music did all the talking.
