September 19 keeps producing oddly good Rolling Stones trivia: packed European shows, a Mick Jagger soundtrack detour and a 1980 single pairing two songs that couldn’t sound much less alike. Then there’s Keith Richards turning up on Marianne Faithfull’s collection and Bill Wyman guesting on Alan Merrill’s At The Candy Shop. From Watford in 1963 to Istanbul in 1998, the date traces the Stones’ world from sweaty halls to giant stadiums, with plenty of side projects and curious connections along the way. Because apparently one band needed several decades of history to make one calendar date this crowded.

The 1970 Performance Original Motion Picture Soundtrack accompanies Donald Cammell and Nicolas Roeg’s crime drama. Produced and arranged by Jack Nitzsche, it combines psychedelic rock, blues-rock, electronic textures, and spoken word. Its unconventional sound reflects the film’s exploration of fractured identity, counterculture, psychological disorientation, and the decadent world of rock and roll.

An energetic track, She’s So Cold blends dance-rock, new wave, and post-punk touches, while Ronnie Wood’s guitars and Bobby Keys’ saxophone add extra bite.
As for Send It To Me, also from the Emotional Rescue album, it’s a tongue-in-cheek reggae-rock number in which Mick Jagger sings from the perspective of a lonely man seeking love from overseas, humorously imagining a mail-order bride while rattling off nationalities ranging from Romanian and Bulgarian to Ukrainian, Australian, and even extraterrestrial.

Her once-delicate voice had evolved into a deep, smoky rasp, giving the later material an entirely different character.
