September 21 has a habit of giving Rolling Stones history more plot twists than anyone requested. In 1964, the band squeezes a Pathé News shoot into the same day as two shows in Kingston-upon-Hull, because apparently playing twice wasn’t enough work. Years later, Syracuse gets the full Steel Wheels treatment, while Bill Wyman heads in a very different direction with the Rhythm Kings and a guest list packed with familiar names. Keith Richards turns up on Willie Nelson’s Outlaws and Angels, Mick Taylor appears on a Jon Tiven Group record, and suddenly one date connects concerts, cinema, side projects, and country-rock detours rather neatly.

While Bill Wyman surrounds himself with an impressive cast, including Georgie Fame, Paul Carrack, Gary Brooker, Albert Lee, Andy Fairweather-Low, Chris Rea, Mick Taylor and Nicky Hopkins, this album rarely catches fire. The musicians are hardly short on talent, but the performances often feel strangely subdued. Fame provides the standout moment with a lively rendition of Walking One and Only, while Wyman seems content to plunk along. Eric Clapton and Peter Frampton contribute little, with Clapton’s lead on Gee Baby Ain’t I Good to You actually not that memorable.

September 21, 1999: Release of Jon Tiven Group’s CD Yes I Ram, with Mick Taylor as guest on one track: Badmouth Moma
Yes I Ram is the Jon Tiven Group’s second studio album, released by New West Records in September 1999. Following their debut Blue Guru, it blends blues, soul, and rock & roll, with Alan Merrill, Jon Tiven, Sally Tiven and Todd Snare forming the core lineup. Most songs feature Tiven as co-writer.

September 21, 2004: Release of Willie Nelson & Friends’ CD Outlaws And Angels, with Keith on guitar on two tracks: 1. We Had It All/ 2. Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On
Outlaws and Angels was recorded on May 5 2004 at Los Angeles’ Wiltern. Introduced by actor James Caan, the concert celebrates Willie Nelson through duets and covers with an impressive lineup of musical guests, bringing together outlaw-country pioneers and mainstream stars from different generations.
